Public Kick-off event of the European project TRANSITECTSTRANSITECTS (Transalpine Transport Architects) aims at shifting transalpine freight traffic to rail. 16 actors from Germany, Austria, Italy and Slovenia are collaborating to improve capacities on existing routes, create innovative logistic products and reliable intermodal nodes.
During the public Kick-off on 3rd May 2010 in Prien am Chiemsee the speakers - among them Dr. Groner-Weber from the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development and Dr. Bechtold from the Bavarian State Ministry of Transport - underlined the necessity of improved rail traffic against the background of predicted growing transport volumes and presented success stories like the growing number and quality of freight-trains crossing the Alps or innovative craning and entraining systems for combined transport. Need for action was identified especially for better harbor-hinterland connections and intermodal nodes. Finally it was commonly agreed that sustainable solutions demand common transnational and interdisciplinary approaches.
