Berlin-Brandenburg awarded as Showcase Electromobility
On 3rd April 2012, the German government decided to grant four German regions Baden-Württemberg, Berlin-Brandenburg, Lower Saxony and Bavaria/Saxony within the program "Schaufenster Elektromobilität".
The decision of the Federal Government will be followed by a review and approval of the individual projects in each of the successful showcases. The 'showcases electromobility' are a measure of the government program electromobility from May 2011. Thereby the Federal Government follows a recommendation of the National Platform for Electromobility. For the three-year program, the federal government is providing funding of up to 180 million Euro for all four projects.
With Berlin-Brandenburg and Bavaria-Saxony two showcases will be established in the Scandria-Corridor creating the opportunity for intensifying networking across borders, taking into account that Scandinavian regions, like Copenhagen or Oslo are forerunners in electromobility as well.
Within the „International Showcase Electromobility Berlin-Brandenburg" shall be implemented 74 projects, including 35 major projects. Nine out of the ten largest car manufacturers in the world, including all the major German manufacturers participate in the showcase.
The goals are ambitious: 3,800 electric cars shall drive on the streets of Berlin and Brandenburg by 2015 in the showcase projects. Including private electric cars this number is expected to reach 15,000. More than 3,400 charging points mainly in Berlin shall supply these vehicles. The state of Berlin wants to build 1,400 public charging points.
