Presentation of innovative transhipment technologies in Wustermark
In the context of the Scandria add-on project Ilotech two innovative transhipment technologies have been presented by Rail Cargo Austria AG (RCA) at the transhipment facility for combined transport in the freight village Berlin West (Wustermark) situated in the Capital Region Berlin-Brandenburg.
The RCA-Concepts Innovative Semi-Trailer Handling Unit, called ISU and Mobiler® have been explained and demonstrated by DI Mr. Erich Possegger, head of Terminal Services Austria and Mr. Walter Schwaighofer, after the deputy head of transport in Brandenburg, Egbert Neumann introduced the presentation. Both technologies are in line with the aims of Scandria and Ilotech to shift not-craneable loads to rail and therefore to unlock further potentials for a sustainable transport preferential in the space of the north-south transport corridor.
The Mobiler® concept a novel hydraulic lifting and moving equipment enables a transfer between heavy good vehicles and a wagon without the need of a crane, if a loading track is available. It is already used in some European countries. ISU is a technical possibility to transport non-craneable semi-trailers as a whole by train via therefore adapted carrying wagons. The latter one has been devised especially for long-haul routes.
The demonstration in front of a professional audience of 80 people consisting out of stakeholders from the transport and logistics industry as well as politicians from Berlin-Brandenburg illustrated the potentials of innovative transhipment technologies and the importance of integrated and cooperative concepts for a development of a green development corridor from Scandinavia to the Adriatic Sea.
